Air Fryer Frozen French Fries

Crispy, golden frozen french fries cooked in the air fryer at 400°F in about 15 minutes — no deep fryer, no mess, restaurant-quality crunch every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (about 12–16 oz) frozen french fries (crinkle cut, straight cut, shoestring, or steak cut)
  • Olive oil spray or avocado oil spray (optional but recommended)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes before adding any fries.
  2. Pour frozen fries directly from the bag into the preheated basket and spread into as close to a single layer as possible. Do not thaw. Cook in batches if needed.
  3. Lightly mist the fries with olive oil or avocado oil spray (optional). Do not pour liquid oil directly into the basket.
  4. Cook at 400°F for the time appropriate to your cut: shoestring 12 min, regular or crinkle cut 15 min, steak cut 18 min, waffle cut 14 min. Shake the basket firmly at the halfway point to redistribute fries for even browning.
  5. Transfer hot fries to a bowl and season immediately with salt and any desired spices while still sizzling. Serve right away for maximum crispiness.

Notes

Never skip preheating. A cold basket causes fries to steam rather than crisp on contact.

Don’t overcrowd. Fill the basket no more than halfway — overcrowding is the number-one cause of soggy fries. Cook in two batches if needed.

Season after cooking. Salting before cooking draws out moisture. Season the moment fries come out of the basket.

Keeping warm. Hold finished batches in a 250°F oven on a wire rack over a baking sheet while subsequent batches cook.

Reheating leftovers. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–4 minutes. Avoid the microwave, which turns fries limp and chewy.
