Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Nuggets

Frozen chicken nuggets cooked at 400°F in the air fryer come out crispy on all sides with a hot, juicy interior in about 12 minutes — no added oil required.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb frozen chicken nuggets (any brand, pre-cooked or raw-frozen)
  • Optional: light spray of olive oil or avocado oil for extra crispiness
  • Optional post-cooking seasonings: garlic salt, smoked paprika, or ranch seasoning
  • Dipping sauces: ketchup, barbecue sauce, honey mustard, ranch dressing, or sweet and sour sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes.
  2. Place frozen nuggets in the basket in a single layer with at least ¼–½ inch of space between each piece. Do not stack or pile. Optionally mist lightly with olive oil or avocado oil spray.
  3. Cook at 400°F for 8 minutes. Pull the basket out and shake to flip and redistribute the nuggets.
  4. Return the basket and cook for an additional 2–4 minutes (10–12 minutes total for standard pre-cooked nuggets; 12–14 minutes for raw-frozen; 8–10 minutes for mini nuggets).
  5. Check doneness: breading should be golden-brown with no pale spots. For raw-frozen nuggets, verify internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) with an instant-read thermometer.
  6. Serve immediately with dipping sauces.

Notes

Always preheat the air fryer — a preheated basket produces crispier breading and more even browning compared to a cold start.

Do not overcrowd: a 3–4 qt basket fits 10–12 nuggets; a 5–6 qt basket fits 15–20 nuggets. Cook in batches if needed — the second batch cooks slightly faster since the basket is already hot.

To hold cooked nuggets without losing crispness, place them on a wire rack in a 200°F oven for up to 15 minutes (avoid a flat plate, which traps steam).
