Air Fryer Apple Chips

Crispy, healthy apple chips made in the air fryer in about 20 minutes with just a few pantry spices — no added sugar required and zero preservatives compared to store-bought.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 medium apples (Fuji, Granny Smith, or Pink Lady recommended)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 12 tsp granulated sugar or coconut sugar (optional)
  • Cooking oil spray (optional)
  • Pinch of fine salt

Instructions

  1. Slice apples crosswise to ⅛-inch thickness using a mandoline or sharp knife. Remove seeds and core from each round slice using a small round cutter or the tip of a paring knife.
  2. Lay slices on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and pat both sides dry. Toss dried slices in a bowl with cinnamon and a pinch of salt; add sugar if using. Apply a very light spray of cooking oil if desired to help seasoning adhere.
  3. Arrange slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket with no overlapping. Air fry at 300°F (150°C), flipping every 5 minutes, for 15–20 minutes total until crispy. Work in batches of 8–12 slices for a 5-quart basket.

Notes

Slice consistency is the single most important factor — target ⅛ inch (about three stacked credit cards). A mandoline produces far more consistent results than a knife.

Always pat slices dry before seasoning. Surface moisture steams the chips in the first minutes of cooking and delays crispiness by 3–5 minutes.

Never overlap slices in the basket — overlapping causes steaming rather than crisping. Use multiple batches as needed.

Chips continue to firm up as they cool on a wire rack. If they seem slightly pliable when removed, rest 5 minutes before judging doneness.
